On November 5, 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping announced at the First China International Import Expo that China supports the integration development of Yangtze River Delta area as a national strategy. With China going through the most active economic development, the highest degree of opening up and the strongest innovative capacity, it has undertaken extraordinary national mission ever since.
In January 2019, Ying Yong, the Mayor of Shanghai, pointed out in the Report on the Work of the Government that Shanghai would spare no efforts in implementing the national strategy of Yangtze River Delta integration development and work jointly to promote the construction of Yangtze River Delta Integration Development Demonstration Zone. As per the report, Shanghai would also proactively drive and carry out the outline of Yangtze River Delta integration development plan and give full play to its leading role.
On November 13, 2019, www.shanghai.gov.cn released “Implementation Draft for Accelerating the Construction of Hongqiao Business District into an International Opening Hub”. Among the “three tasks” of Hongqiao Business District, “be brave in taking the lead in serving the national strategy of Yangtze River Delta integration development” ranks in the first place. Hongqiao has so far built comprehensive cooperation with 17 main cities in Yangtze River Delta area and functional platforms such as Yangtze River Delta Urban Exhibition Center, Yangtze River Delta E-commerce Center and the linked platform of Yangtze River Delta Business, Tourism and Recreation and Sports Demonstration Zone.
